Ed Morrisey of Captain’s Quarters breaks down the Harriet Miers’ reaction in a piece for WaPo: How Harriet Unleashed a Storm on the Right.
He breaks down the camps into three: the Loyalist Army, the Rebel Alliance and the Trench-Dwelling Dogfaces.
The nature of the Loyalists was underscored this morning on MTP where one of the guests was Dr. Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention, and his basic argument was that we should trust the President.
Even if one accepts that there is sufficient reasons to do so (and I am not of that opinion on this issue), it really isn’t a very good argument–it is, rather, simply an assertion. The fact that there are no facts upon which to construct an argument about Miers should give all the Loyalists substantial pause for thought.
I will say, for the record, that I am not pleased to have my side of the argument being defended by Pat Buchanan, but politics makes strange bedfellows and all that.
At any rate, Morrissey’s piece is worth a read and no doubt will be much-discussed in the Blogosphere today, and for the rest of the week.
I suspect his categories will take hold in this debate. If anything, count me as part of the Rebel Alliance (if anything, it fits my geeky side quite well).
