By Steven L. Taylor

So far, it would seem that the Blogospheric reaction (by conservatives/”The Right”, mind you) regardng the Klein allegations is quite negative.

For example:

  • Betsy Newmark:

Oh gosh, please let us not have to go through another tromp through the Clinton marriage again.

    [...]

First of all, I don’t believe the allegation. What man seriously tells his friend, “I’m going back to my cottage to rape my wife?” If he did indeed say it, I would bet anything it was a poor joke rather than a serious assertion of his plan to indeed rape his wife. But, we’re going into serious TMI territory here. If it was true, it’s over 25 years ago and they clearly came to terms with whatever happened. And, whatever you think of Bill and Hillary, their daughter doesn’t deserve to have these aspersions cast on her conception.

  • Lorie Byrd:
When I first saw it the first thing I thought of (after thinking it did not sound the least bit believable) was that this could serve to make Hillary a victim of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy yet again.

  • Jon Henke:
Unless Klein has unimpeachable evidence—not an “anonymous source”…unimpeachable proof that it was actually “rape” and not just a joke—he should be kicked out of decent company; his journalistic career should be over. Even if he has solid evidence, I seriously question whether this is the sort of tale that ought be told. I’d say no.

  • Captain Ed:
I’m no fan of the Clintons, but the Right has had its problem reining in its vitriol regarding Bill and Hillary since 1992.

    [...]

If Drudge has this quote and context correct, it’s a mind-boggling anecdote to put into anyone’s biography — and a completely inexcusable and ridiculous claim.

  • AJ Strata:

What in the world is going on where an author claims a beloved child is the result of a rape.

  • John Cole:
I have had just about enough of these so-called ‘insider’ true stories that are rteally nothing more than smear jobs, regardless of the target.

  • Gerry at Daly Thoughts:
I don’t know what Edward Klein’s angle is, beyond a desire to sell books and make a buck. All I do know is that I do not believe him, and think it is shameful and a disgrace.

Update: In the original post I accidentally posted AJ Strata’s comment twice–once attributing them to John Cole. Sorry about that–and it is now fixed.

I never said what you have me quoted as saying. Not sure where that even came from.

    John,

Oops. I pasted Strata’s comments twice. It is now fixed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I commented on the last Klein’s Rape Charge blog but the new one just made me think. Look at all of these comments; Hillary can bring all of the right-wingers to her side. Could this book just be an attempt by the Left to get those on the Right to say good things about Hillary and “stop” the sleazy politics that the Clinton’s injected into the political discourse. Maybe this is the conspiracy, not the details in the book itself. Feel sorry for Hillary and by the way vote for her for President. Don’t think that this story will not be in the mainstream media for days, weeks, and months to come, as more details are released.

The Gerry Daley link does not work.

  5. Outside The Beltway Says:

The Truth About the Truth About Hillary

When Drudge broke news of “The Truth About Hillary” by Ed Klein some time back, I was skeptical about both the content and its ultimate impact on the campaign. Now that Drudge has revealed the substance of the book’s most sensation…

  6. Doug Irvine Says:

Yes. Mr. Klein is quite possibly doing this at the behest of Ms. Clinton and her reelection campaign. I’m sure his book will cover many things that would make one reconsider voting for her. But in 2008, it will be ignored, as ‘old news’.

  7. Doug Irvine Says:

I don’t know if Mr. Klein is writing this book for Ms. Clinton or for her election campaign or maybe it could be ‘just for the money’. However, many revelations may show her as unfit for president. It fits with their ‘get the bad news out early’ ploy. Then in 2008, these things will all be brushed aside, as ‘old news’ and as ‘proven lies from years ago’. It’s worked for them before. So has that victim thing.
