Via CNN: Clinton supporter on WV vote: Just wait til we win like 80-202

You think this crowds noisy? said West Virginia Senate Majority Leader Harry Truman Chafin. Just wait til we win like 80-20.

Weve got to give her a vote tomorrow of 80-20 or 90-10, he added moments later.

A campaign spokesman quickly tried to downplay Chafins remaks, saying We appreciate his exuberance, but we’re pretty sure this race is going to be much closer than that.

Indeed.

One knows one is in trouble when one needs such a huge, impossible win to be seen as viable. Indeed, once supporters start making claims like the above, one knows that the party is almost over.

Granted, Obama is going to be crushed in WV (although not 80-20), but even that crushing won’t be enough to matter to Clinton.

Chafin’s remarks sound like one of my kids trying to construct a scenario as to how a football team we are rooting for might manage 21 points in the last 1:00 of the game. “But, Dad, what if…?”

And it’s not just local legislators making grandiose claims:

Last week President Bill Clinton told a campaign crowd that ”all this stuff you are hearing about is an attempt to discourage you. That’s what this is, pure and simple, hoping, ‘Well, Hillary can get 80 percent of the vote in West Virginia’, and if only 100,000 people show up it is not enough. But if 600,000 people show up, and you say, ‘We want a president’, then you will see the earth move.”
