Via the AP: Gunman kills 21 at Virginia Tech
A gunman opened fire in a dorm and classroom at Virginia Tech on Monday, killing 21 people and wounding another 21 before he was killed, police said.
That is the extent of the Reuters report.
More when I find it.
Update CNN has more:
One person was killed and others were wounded at multiple locations inside a dormitory about 7:15 a.m., Flinchum said. Two hours later, another shooting at Norris Hall, an engineering building, resulted in multiple casualties, the university reported.
It doesn’t seem that, as of the writing of that report, that they had caught the gunman.
Update II: Fox News has the following details: FOXNews.com - Police: 22 Dead After Virginia Tech University Shooting
Virginia Tech student Blake Harrison said he was on his way to class near Norris Hall when he saw chaos.“This teacher comes flying out of Norris, he’s bleeding from his arm or his shoulder … all these students were coming out of Norris trying to take shelter in Randolph [Hall]. All these kids were freaked out,” Harrison said.
The students and faculty were barricading themselves in their classrooms after what one person described as an Asian student wearing a vest opened fire.
The shooter was “wearing a vest covered in clips was just unloading on their door, going from classroom to classroom … they said it never seemed like it was going to stop and there was just blood all over,” Harrison said.
While this write-up has no information on the shooter, the banner on the Fox News site states “Gunman Reported Killed”.
Update III: The ABC News banner is also announcing that the shooter is dead.
This all sounds like the nightmare scenario on a college campus wherein some student loses it.
Update IV: The death tool rose while I was in class: At least 31 dead in Va. Tech shooting:
Authorities said the gunman was dead after he shot nearly 50 people at two locations on campus. Twenty-one were confirmed dead, NBC News reported. At least 28 others were injured, at least four of whom were in critical condition, NBC affiliate WSLS-TV in nearby Roanoke reported, quoting local hospital officials. The name of the gunman, whom witnesses described as a young Asian man wearing a maroon cap and a black leather jacket, was not released. It was not immediately clear whether he shot himself or was killed by police.
The man did not appear to be shooting at random, NBC News’ Pete Williams reported, quoting federal law enforcement officials. He appeared to have specifically targeted the two locations, a co-ed dormitory and a classroom in an engineering building.
Update V: Via ABC News, Massacre at Virginia Tech: 32 Confirmed Dead
Law enforcement officials tell ABC News they believe there was a single gunman, firing at least two 9mm semi-automatic pistols. They said he may have been wearing a bulletproof vest.Sphere: Related ContentIt is unknown at this time if the guns had standard or extended clips, which can fire as many as 30 shots before the gun has to be reloaded.
The gunman, whose identity has not been released, is among the dead. Flinchum would not say whether the shooter had killed himself.

The name of the gunman, whom witnesses described as a young Asian man wearing a maroon cap and a black leather jacket, was not released.
I’m hoping that they are not ruling out terrorist ties–since we’re currently at war in one Asian country and threatening at least two others.

I’ve heard that they don’t think it is terrorist related but they are exploring all angles.

CNN’s coverage has been absolute trash. It’s amazing the lengths that these “reporters” seem to be going to make this horrific event “entertaining.” It’s absolutely maddening.

Can’t believe this happened in separate incidents two hours apart. Reminds me of the towers - no need to evac the second tower because the first was just an accident… Why did they not secure the uni or put the uni in alert? Bloody idiots.

A Symptom of our “Chain Letter Society”?
Read an analysis of the influences in our “Chain Letter Society” that may be precipitating events like the tragedy at Virginia Tech and how our focus on winning and being number one may be fostering a generation of children with fully inadequate coping skills who have a misguided sense of self-worth…here:

James,
I very much wonder what the deal with that is as well. I fear that someone made a very grave, very stupid mistake.
