Mark Kleiman is very much on target in this post on the policy choices set before us in Afghanistan. He lays out the situation quite well, and echoes statements I have recently made myself.

If you are interested in the fate of Afghanistan or the trade-offs that have to be made between the war on drugs and the war on terror that we find ourselves in, then the piece is very much worth a read (for example: here, here and here).
