Via CNN: Reid apologizes for ‘Negro dialect’ comment

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid apologized Saturday following reports he had privately described then-candidate Barack Obama during the presidential campaign as a black candidate who could be successful thanks in part to his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

Not only is that a ridiculous thing to say, who talks like that?  More to the point, how stupid does one have to be to be a high-profile elected official and talk like that?1  If anything, it is hardly a flattering reflection on Reid.

This revelation will hardly help Reid, who is already in trouble:  NEVADA U.S. SENATE POLL: Reid hits new low in poll.
