"I'm not Jesus Christ of the tax code. I can't completely martyr myself."--Ben Affleck.

Here' the backstory, from the NYT article:

At a breakfast with Florida delegates, the actor Ben Affleck got into specifics, explaining that the Bush tax cuts had provided him with $1 million last year that he didn't need.

    [...]

We asked Mr. Affleck if he had considered sending the $1 million back to Washington. "No," he said. "I'm not Jesus Christ of the tax code. I can't completely martyr myself."

I'm sure Ben will mail it right in as soon as us "little people" pony up-

    "The horrors; the horrors".

Well, I don't want to martyr myself either, Ben, so keep your and your friends' hands out of my pockets.

I firmly believe in an individual's right to spend his money on anything he wants to spend it on. I do get a tad miffed when the same persons who spend $20,000 a place setting for a party tell me that I need to give more to welfare, soc. sec., nationalized health, et. al. Charity starts at home, Ben.

I tend to get a tad miffed when a person who spends $100,000 on a gold toilet seat as a gift for J-Lo implies that I'm a greedy, heartless SOB for simply wanting to keep a little more of my own money.

God, I hope the Kerry campaign keeps Red Ben around for a while. He might help Kerry with the young female demographic, but he should annoy pretty much everyone else -especially if he keeps spouting off like this.
