  • Adios, Mr. Tony

In case you didn't know, this is Tony Kornhesier's last week on ESPN Radio.

I don't listen all that often (indeed, I am normally in class during the two hours that he is on in the Montgomery market on MWF and part of the time on TTH or am working on something that precludes listening to talk radio), but Kornheiser is one of my favorite talk radio hosts, regardless of genre.

Interesting. Did he say why he's leaving? He certainly doesn't need the money, I guess.

He is leaving to devote more time to his column, and, specifically, his various tv commitments at ESPN.

I listen to his show over the internet occasionally, and from what I hear he has been complaining about having "too many jobs" for quite a long time now.

I'm a huge TK fan . . . I listen for a little while every day if I can. There was some speculation that his leaving may have been less than willing and largely due to his failure to hold an audience when the borebarian Jim Rome starts broadcasting at noon ET. But TK says no, this was his idea, he just didn't like having three jobs.

Ne'ertheless, you can easily sense TK's contempt for Rome. That's a pretty open secret. I'll miss the show, but I have high hopes for the new guy, Colin Cowherd.

Sheesh. Is Rome even still on ESPN TV?

He (Rome) strikes me as a passive-aggressive version of Ahmad Rashad--embedded in the subject's rectum until some random point in time, at which time he goes nuts and starts criticizing the subject.

Count me among those who are glad to see Kornheiser leaving ESPN. I used to listen to him for two hours driving to Columbia, and I eventually had to stop listening because what wasn't interrupting the sports news anchor or telling personal stories about driving to golf tourneys (aka name dropping) was reminiscing about Elvis freakin' Costello. He's a windbag, plain and simple. Not only that, but his voice is grating beyond belief.
