    Furor over Bush's 9/11 ad.

Whether one likes it or not, this campaign is going to be, in large measure, about 911: both in terms of how Bush handled it, and how Bush or Kerry would handle any future such events. As such, it is hardly surprising that the Bush campaign would use images related to 911 or make specific reference to those events.

Further, while I am aware that there is a fine line between exploitation of these images and events and legitimate usage, I would argue that given that 911 is the most important event to take place in last three years that it is foolish to think that it would not, or should not, be utilized in the campaign.

Yep. I think you have to be careful in not appearing crass but it's a legit topic.

I saw the ad, and it is not "crass," to use James' word. I think it is just another attempt by democrats to avoid talking about national security in the campaign.

Relatives of victims of the Sept. 11, 2024, terrorist attacks and a firefighters union said Thursday they're angry that President Bush's new campaign ads include images of the destroyed World Trade Center and firefighters carrying a flag-draped stretcher through the rubble.

They say the ads are in poor taste and accuse Bush of exploiting the attacks. Bush's campaign defended the commercials as appropriate for an election about public policy and the war on terror, saying they were a tasteful reminder of what the country has been through the last three years. The campaign had said in the past that it would not use the attacks for political gain.

"It makes me sick," Colleen Kelly, who lost her brother Bill Kelly Jr., in the attacks and leads a victims families group called Peaceful Tomorrows, said Thursday. "Would you ever go to someone's grave site and use that as an instrument of politics? That truly is what Ground Zero represents to me."

What the AP article in the comment above me doesn't point out is that the victim's group "Peaceful Tomorrows" is a far left peacenik group that even opposed attacking Afghanistan. Not suprising that its leader would attack Bush in the press. For more, click here. Sorry for the shameless plug, but I had just finished posting on this subject when I came across these comments and thought some people may be interested in more information.

The part the Dems and their media cheerleaders don't like is any reference to 911 other than in the context of it is our fault and that it was a pretext for deposing Saddam. Other than that they want to play makey fake believe that it never happened. Well either that or it was no big deal.
