Of course, this will help reinforce the Edwards’ charge that Cheney has an uncomfortable relationship with the truth:Cheney and Edwards Have Met Before.

Although since Edwards didn’t cite it last night, it must not have been all that memorable an event :)

  1. My thoughts exactly. Edwards needed to go do some research. But it still was very effective for Cheney.

  2. If Edwards didn’t remeber and had to look it up (or someone did it for him) how should Cheney remember? What about the “less important person in an introduction always remembers better than the more important person” rule? That’s why the Farleyfile, right? I was pretty sure they must have met *somewhere*. I thought Cheney’s point was that he sure didn’t meet Edwards in the Senate. Ya know, where they are both supposed to work.

    Comment by Meezer — Wednesday, October 6, 2004 @ 5:09 pm

  3. Apparently Edwards and his wife both reminded Cheney that they had met immediately after the debate. I read somewhere that, like trial lawyers tend to do, Edwards may have let it go so Cheney would be stuck with the statement and not immediately be able to explain it away. Taht way, he could use it forever.

  4. Vice-President Chaney can’t be expected to remember every Senator, especially ones with an undistinguished record and very little time on the job. But, Edwards should have remembered if he met the Vice-President of the United States. He said nothing in response and looked like he wanted to crawl under the desk.

  5. Bah. You people are rationalizing (Doris and Meezer.) That would be a reasonable defense if it was just a detail mentioned in passing. If you’re going to use it as a rhetorical hammer, you carry the onus to get it right. You don’t slap people with things you’re only kinda sure about, or else you run the risk of this happening.

  6. Cheney also lied about his record for presiding over the senate, which happens not even once in a blue moon…
