I Have No Doubt that Leahy Can be Annoying, but…

By Steven Taylor @ 6:54 pm

This really isn’t appropriate behavior for the Veep on the floor of the Senate Cheney Utters ‘F-Word’ in Senate - Aides

Vice President Dick Cheney blurted out the “F word” at Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont during a heated exchange on the Senate floor, congressional aides said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in a terse discussion between the two that touched on politics, religion and money, with Cheney finally telling Leahy to “f— off” or “go f— yourself,” the aides said.

“I think he was just having a bad day,” Leahy was quoted as saying on CNN, which first reported the incident. “I was kind of shocked to hear that kind of language on the floor.”

  1. I say it was all planned. They are looking for a reason to have Cheney leave the ticket so they can appoint Rudy or Condi.

Or maybe he just had a bad day.

  2. I doubt an f-bomb would be a reason to get him off the ticket. All he has to do is claim heart trouble to get off.

    Comment by Steven — Thursday, June 24, 2004 @ 7:32 pm

  3. I’d love to say FU to Leahy.

  4. It’s about effing time that this administration showed some balls. I think this is GREAT press, not bad press.

  5. This is bad form. I’m all for criticizing Leahy, but this wasn’t the way to do it.

    Comment by Jeremiah — Friday, June 25, 2004 @ 9:09 am

  6. From what I’ve read/heard, Leahy was calling Cheney out and accusing him (again) of helping Halliburton get the sweetheart no-bid contract in Iraq.

Given that he’s answered all that publicly, but Leahy wouldn’t let up, I think a “F*** off” was in order. Not the model of decorum, but I doubt Cheney achieved his station in life by always being a nice guy.

  7. I agree with Jeremiah,

“This is bad form. I’m all for criticizing Leahy, but this wasn’t the way to do it.”

I would have added “mother” in front of the “f-word” and made it a noun.

    Comment by John Lemon — Friday, June 25, 2004 @ 12:35 pm

  8. Did Kerry get the same amount of exposure when he used “F” in an interview?

    Comment by Director Mitch — Friday, June 25, 2004 @ 2:36 pm

  9. As somebody pointed out, “it was long overdue.” And I’m glad Cheney “felt better afterward.”
