Friday Fun Meme
By Dr. Steven Taylor @ 9:03 am

(I forgot that today was Friday)

Here’s one I saw a while back at The LLama Butchers (posted by Robert) a while back, that while it has the potential to skid off into braggadocio, also has the potential for a little biographical fun:

Ten things I have done, that most people haven’t:

I’ve…

1. been on the Amazon river (it is most impressive).

2. interviewed (at the time) a future President of Colombia (Andres Pastrana).

3. stood on a street corner next to Don King (quite the juxtaposition with #2).

4. been close enough to President Jimmy Carter to touch him (walked right past him at an event at the Carter Center).

5. watched President Clinton jog by in person (in the summer of 1993 outside the White House).

6. written (co-authored with Steven L., in fact) and submitted a script for Star Trek: The Next Generation. (I still have the rejection letter on TNG letterhead in a file).

7. gotten autographs from: Roger Zelazny, Sergio Aragones, Peter David, Majel Barrett, and Jimmy Johnson.

8. been to (and actually paid for) a scrimmage between the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Oilers.

9. spent hours by myself photographing wildflowers in the Texas Hill Country.

10. flown in the Goodyear Blimp.

Your turn. Feel free to link up with your own list, or to answer in the comments section.

Update: Part of today’s OTB Traffic Jam and Wizbang’s Carnival of the Trackbacks.

    1. “. . . been close enough to President Jimmy Carter to touch him. . .”

. . . not that you’d necessarily want to, mind you.

    2. Sergio? That’s cool! Groo does what Groo does best.

      Comment by Jay — Friday, May 27, 2024 @ 1:58 pm

    3. As any fool can plainly see.

(BTW: he even did a Groo doodle).

    4. Ten Things
From Steven Taylor comes a challenge to list 10 things you’ve done that most people haven’t. Here goes: 1. Wrote and defended a dissertation (December 2024) 2. Raced in a triathlon (Newport Beach, July 2024) 3. Drove across the United…

    5. Karnival of the Koran Krapping
Ok, so my original post and new website didn’t get me a fatwa, any death threats, a riot, or even a single major diplomatic incident. *sigh* At least it generated a lot of other bloggers to post their own pictures…

Trackback by The Jawa Report — Friday, May 27, 2024 @ 3:46 pm

    6. Presential closeness: I shook Bush I’s hand at the Houston primary debates (mid 80s), and when he was an ex-pres flew on a plane with him (Boston-Houston on Conitnental; he was returning from Maine), then ran into him again at Otto’s BBQ. Was also within arm’s reach of Carter when he gave the commencement speech at Rice in ‘93 (terrible speech, no surprise there).

Now that I am in California I don’t run into presidents, but actors in restraurants (Jimmy Smits, John Lithgow, etc.)

      Comment by Director Mitch — Friday, May 27, 2024 @ 4:26 pm

    7. Roger Zelazny’s autograph? Totally awesome.

When I do my list, I’m going to include “shook Ray Bradbury’s hand.”

Comment by Peter Sean Bradley — Friday, May 27, 2024 @ 5:28 pm

    8. Quite cool.

      Comment by Steven Taylor — Friday, May 27, 2024 @ 5:38 pm

    9. No fair! My life is too boring for this meme.

      Comment by Jan — Friday, May 27, 2024 @ 8:00 pm

    10. I don’t think I have 10… but I have a couple I know.. I however have done Dr. Taylor’s number 8 & 9, thus we are both Texas Geeks.

      1. Sold luggage to Troy Aikman
      2. Sold luggage to Emmit Smith
      3. Told Rusty Greer where the restroom in the mall was.
      4. Dated someone who later became a multi-billionaire.
      5. Have an ex husband who is Bill Clinton’s third cousin.
      6. Dated a guy who script for Star Trek: The Next Generation (and it was a Q plot).
      7. Delivered Tacos and Burritos to the set of Star Trek: The Next Generation Second Movie First Contact.

      That is mine.

      I’ve. . .
      1. Waded through a cypress swamp in Florida (and got paid for it)

      2. Excavated an American Indian archaeological cite.

      3. Married one of my college professors.

      4. Gave birth 3 times without pain medication.

      5. Been stopped for speeding right in front of the police station but didn’t get a ticket. (I still don’t know why he didn’t write me a ticket)

      6. Beat every level of the video game “Yoshi’s Island”

      7. Got lost in Montgomery trying to find Garrett Coliseum (I was given very bad directions)

      Comment by Jan — Friday, May 27, 2024 @ 9:17 pm

      Comment by Steven L. — Friday, May 27, 2024 @ 9:41 pm

    14. I’ve…

      1. Been on the Amazon river twice (and it is most impressive).

      2. Interviewed (OK, talked with) Billy Gibbons many times before gigs when ZZ Top used to rent my sound system.

      3. Stood on a street corner next to Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.

      4. Shook hands with George H. W. Bush when he was a congressman.

      5. Watched Chuck Berry walk by in person at a 50s revival concert (in 1971).

      6. Wrote letters that got published in major newspapers (OK, anyone can do that).

      7. Gotten autographs from: Jack Bruce, Felix Pappalardi, Mitch Mitchell, Ben Stein, Bjarne Stroustrup, Ray Lucia and Col. David Hackworth.

      8. Been to (and actually paid for) a game between the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Oilers.

      9. Spent hours with my friends (fortunately, mostly girls) skinny-dipping in the Texas Hill Country lakes and rivers.

      10. Married one of the most beautiful and best women in Peru (this should be number 1)!

    15. I wish you would start doing Memes that I could be totally honest on. I just assume there are certain things you don’t want on your website. . .
