Frist plans to use ‘option’ on nomination of Owen.
Further, I am not sure that the strategically smart thing to do here is to take one of the most controversial (according to the Democrats) nominees to the flooor first–unless one is determined to “go nuclear” and one knows for certain that one has the votes.
Should Frist attempt this option and then fail to win the vote, he will look like, well, an idiot.
Frist won’t go nuclear unless he has the votes. Remember, he only needs 50…

I don’t think that either side will know which way the nuclear vote will go, until they start voting. Right now it looks alot like 50 - 48 against, with 3 Senators (Warner, Smith and Specter on the fence.) If the GOP loses any one of them, Frist will be done. But at this point I don’t think Frist thinks he has any choice. Trying to be statesman like will doom his primary chances in 2024. (Of course, the nuclear option may well doom his chance in the general as well.)
Live by the sword, die by it too.
