Howard Kurtz hits the nail on the head regarding the basic flaw in the blog section of The Huffington Post:
The best blogs, love ‘em or hate ‘em, have an unmistakable voice; this will be a cacophony of voices. It’s an open question whether the scribblings of the rich and influential can be as compelling as those of previously obscure people who are now online stars.
I still maintain that most of these people will get bored and drift away. Given that the majority of blogs fail (i.e., go dormant after a while), why should it be any different with celebs?
And really THP reminds me of why I am not a big fan of group blogs–I never know who is going to be posting. I typically read specific blogs because that specific blogger writes in their own unique voices on a specific set of topics. While something like THP may work, it will work for reasons different from the reason that blogs flourish (and more they way that magazines are successful). Indeed, it is worse for THP because the group authors will not be consistent over time, meaning that even as a group effort there will be the lack of unique voice for the blog.
