Law professor (and Catholic) Stephen Bainbridge has a number of interesting posts on the new Pope.
He notes the coverage on CNN and MSNBC (which he dubs “relentlessly negative”) and he is none too impressed with Andrew Sullivan’s analysis of the situation.
I agree. I was not surprised at the take on his religious conservatism, but I was surprised by the feigned shock and tone being used on the radio today. Shock that the person touted as the most likely actually did get voted in?
One reporter stated that the longer the conclave lasted, the more it was assumed that Ratzinger was being voted down as too divisive . . . this was after *one day*.
And they had an American religion scholar stading by to give a quote on how this was a set back, etc. No time to interview any supporters, I guess.
