  1. Well, now, let’s look at the actual quote:

    It’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to rebuild New Orleans — the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans,” the mayor said. “This city will be a majority African American city. It’s the way God wants it to be. You can’t have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn’t be New Orleans.

    Doesn’t look to me like he’s factoring the white folk in too much, although I’ll grant you he does say “majority.” Nevertheless, it looks like a bit of backpedaling — or backpaddling — to me.

  2. I should add that the entire speech focused on blacks and the black community, not an interracial community.

    I remain convinced that Nagin isn’t quite the sharpest tool in the shed.
