First, read the whole thing at Aljazeera.Net, as I don’t really want to fisk the whole thing, and there isn’t an easy excerpt.
A few observations:
1) Armed groups don’t typically offer truces when they are winning (despite such claims in the “offer”).
2) The exact nature of the “truce” isn’t clear, except that it seems to have to do with full US withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan. Given that the 9/11 attacks, not to mention the Cole and the African embassies took place before those two invasions, it is rather odd to think that withdrawal would lead to peace with al Qaeda.
3) It is just me, or is it a tad ridiculous (ok, more than a tad) for a terrorist with authoritarian aspirations to cite poll numbers as a rationale for action?
