Via the AP: Study Questions Health Effects of Decaf
Fresh questions are percolating about the health effects of coffee, this time the decaffeinated variety. One of the first substantial studies to test it like a drug instead of just asking people how much of it they consumed found higher blood levels of cholesterol-precursor fats in those drinking decaf vs. regular coffee or none at all.[...]
The result: decaf drinkers had modestly higher levels — 8 to 18 percent — of fatty acids and precursors of LDL or bad cholesterol than the others.
See! Decaf is evil

I haven’t read the full report or even looked at the article you link to, but the problem isn’t so much decaf itself, as the beans they make it from. If your decaf comes from Arabica beans it’s ok. Robusto beans are the problem, decaf or not. At least that’s my understanding of it.
Just for the record, I have reentered caffeine and coffee heaven. It’s a nice place. I may stay awhile. I’ve decided grad school doesn’t mesh with a caffeine free lifestyle. One or the other had to go.

Decaf is evil? Maybe, but the more important conclusion I would offer is that it’s pointless.
