La Ley Seca

I forgot to blog this back on Friday.

365.71 (3/12/10). Dry Law.

Absolutely no time at all today for even a quck snap. Indeed, all I had was my iPhone to take this.

This is the alcohol aisle in a Ley (ironically enough), a discount grocery store chain. Because of Sunday’s elections the dry law went into effect today at 6pm. No alcohol sales until after the election!

So, any colombianos who want to vote drunk had better have already stocked up!

Colombians invented the “tinto claro” for just such occasions. It is your normal tinto (black coffee with sugar) but with an added shot of aguardiente.

Yep, I distinctly remember back in 1990, when I was in Pereira, Colombia, for the elections, going to the store with my hosts before Ley Seca came into effect. We had to have our Ron Viejo de Caldas for election day!
