Via the BBC:  Lula’s party endorses presidential pick Dilma Rousseff

The governing Workers’ Party in Brazil has endorsed the president’s chief of staff as its candidate for presidential elections in October.

Economist Dilma Rousseff was personally nominated by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is prevented by law from standing for a third consecutive term.

She promised fiscal discipline and economic stability if elected.

The AP has a few more details (Brazil’s ruling party picks Silva’s chief of staff):

Dilma Rousseff, a 62-year-old economist and former guerrilla leader who has never run for office, is currently Silva’s chief of staff and served as mines and energy minister during his first term. Widely expected for some time now to garner the nomination, she was approved by acclaim at a Workers Party congress. The presidential election is slated for October.
