Via the Las Vegas SunTea Party to field candidate in battle for Harry Reid’s Senate seat

Sun columnist Jon Ralston is reporting that the Tea Party has qualified as a third party in Nevada and will have a candidate in the Senate race to battle for the seat held by Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The party has filed a Certificate of Existence but needs to get 1 percent of the electorate to vote for its candidate in November to permanently qualify, according to the report.

Ralston reported that Jon Ashjian will be the Tea Party’s U.S. Senate candidate on the November ballot. Ashjian still must declare his candidacy.

First off, it is intriguing that the Tea Party is registering to run into own candidates in the state.  Second, depending on how vigorously the Tea Party movement invests itself into a Senate candidate, this could be the best news that Harry Reid has received in some time.  If the Tea Partiers are able to split the opposition vote even a little bit, it could be enough to take Reid from a likely loss (as it appears at the moment) to a win.  It would be very much like the NY23 special election in which the Tea Party-backed Conservative Candidate took out the Republican and allowed the Democrat to win the seat that otherwise was likely to go GOP.

This could all be quite fascinating.

It’s cunning. Almost brilliant. The Republicans are unlikely to retake the Senate. If Harry Reid were to lose his seat, the Leadership might go to someone competent, possessing a backbone, or both. Splitting the vote keeps Reid in office while making it look like conservatives at least tried to beat him.

Okay, kidding. But I bet you don’t have a better explantation!

You’ve got to be kidding me?!
The GOP is actually backing a stellar candidate in Nevada, Sue Lowden.
      She tests at 50% to Reid’s 40%.

So the Tea Party wants to split that 50% between the two candidates and let Harry Reid sail right back into the Senate???
WOW! That’s brilliant. We have an avowed Lenin/Marxist in the White House and this is how you want to handle it? WTG.

I just checked the primary calendar, Nevada’s also choosing a Governor this year. Why not play this one smart and run Jon Ralston for Governor which is more important anyway in terms of State’s Tenth Amendment Rights.

Please do not go the way of Illinois.
