One of the most endangered Democratic incumbents in the Senate is Arkansas’ Blanche Lincoln.  A new Public Policy Polling poll [PDF] underscores this fact:

John Boozman will enter the Arkansas Senate race this weekend with a
strong advantage over incumbent Blanche Lincoln.

Boozman leads Lincoln 56-33. He takes 89% of the Republican vote while she gets just 68% of the Democratic vote, and he also holds a 66-20 lead with independents.

These numbers reflect, as the poll report notes, Lincoln’s profound lack of popularity at the moment, as 43% of respondents actually have no opinion of Boozman.  Lincoln’s approval rating is 27%.

Arkansas went 59%-39% for McCain in 2024 and elected a Democratic Governor (Mike Beebe) 55%-41% in 2006 (who was preceded by Mike Huckabee).

According to the poll, Governor Beebe would be competitive in a Senate race with Boozman, but there does not appear to be any indication that he will run.

Update:  The WSJ’s Washington Wire has this assumingly understated headline regarding these numbers:  Poll Spells Trouble for Sen. Lincoln.

Indeed.
