Via the BBC:  Colombia accuses Venezuela of blowing up border bridges.

Of course, these were improvised, pedestrian bridges that the Venezuelans claim were illegal, so isn’t as quite dramatic as it sounds (i.e., if they had destroyed official border-crossing points).  It certainly is just yet another example of the escalating tensions between the two states.

The Colombians aren’t too pleased in any event, as according to El Tiempo they plan to file complaints over the incident with both the OAS and the UN.

A statement from the Foreign Minister of Colombia said that the destruction of the bridges “constituted a unilateral and aggressive act against the civilian population and communities of the border".”1

The bridges were illegal, but according to local residents, they had been there for 60 years. It’s not as if it was a recent development. They were a long term key part of the local economy and culture.
