Via El Tiempo: ‘Si Colombia nos agrede nuevamente, la respuesta será militar’, afirmó Rafael Correa
“Yo no permitiré un ultraje al territorio patrio como el que ocurrió el 1 de marzo de 2008 en Angostura”, dijo en referencia al operativo donde murió ‘Raúl Reyes’, del Secretariado de las Farc.
Translation:
“I will not permit another outrage against our territory like that which took place on March 1, 2008 in Angostura,” [Correa] said in reference to the operation which killed ‘Raúl Reyes’ of the FARC secretariat.
The headline translates “‘If Colombia attacks us again, our response will be a military one.”
The statements were made during an interview with an Ecuadoran television station in which he said:
“Si nos vuelven a atacar, por supuesto que la respuesta sería militar”
Translation:
“If they attack us again, of course the response will be military.”
Relations between Ecuador and Colombia have been poor since the attack on Reyes’ camp in March of 2008 and have been made worse by the recent release of a video from a captured FARC laptop wherein FARC commanders discussed campaign contributions to Correa’s 2006 campaign.

Lot of tough talk there considering that Colombia would own Ecuador in an actual military confrontation. Is Correa coming up for reelection or trying to push important legislation?
