Via CNN: Daschle withdraws as HHS nominee.
I am actually somewhat surprised, given that one would have expected his former Senate colleagues to perhaps go easy on him. And, perhaps, if there hadn’t already been the Geithner problem, he could have weathered this.
The fact that he once served, if memory serves, on a tax-code-writing committee in the Senate, this is all especially problematic.

Am I the only one who noticed how quick Obama threw Richardson under the bus, but was willing to fight for Geithner and Daschle?

Good point. I think that because the Blagojevich thing was happening at the same time, a governor who might be under investigation was considered especially problematic. Plus, there were indications that Richardson had forced his way into the job and that the Richardson teams didn’t fully disclose the situation. Still, they may have all have been spin.
