Via the Politico (not, as one might think, The Onion): Joe the Plumber advises GOP-ers

When GOP congressional aides gather Tuesday morning for a meeting of the Conservative Working Group, Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher – more commonly known as Joe the Plumber — will be their featured guest. This group is an organization of conservative Capitol Hill staffers who meet regularly to chart GOP strategy for the week.

Wurzelbacher, who became a household name during the presidential election, will be focusing his talk on the proposed stimulus package. He’s apparently not a fan of the economic rescue package, according to members of the group.

This is so bizarre that I half think that it has to be a joke. However, if the GOP wants to figure out why it is in trouble, this kind of stuff should be at the top of the list.

According to the piece, the presences of Joe is being used as an inducement for staffers to attend:

“In case you weren’t planning to attend CWG tomorrow morning, you might want to reconsider because Joe the Plumber will be joining us!” Kimberly Wallner, an aide to South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, wrote in a message to her e-mail list this afternoon.

Who in the world would be be motivated to attend a meeting specifically because Joe the Plumber was going to speak, and about the stimulus package no less? His pontifications on war should be enough to convince folks to stay away, one would think.

This is for the “you can’t make this stuff up” file.

As I have noted before, this has got to be the longest fifteen minutes of fame ever.

What gets me, is that he doesn’t know anything about politics. What campaigns has he worked on, what races (even local ones) has he run? This is just insane.

can we now call him “Sideshow Joe”? he seems too become more and more of a freakshow attraction, being passed around by the conservative movement.

I find very easy to YES to a great American. And by the way he has just about as much experience as President Obama. Right now your President seems lost and doesnt even know who has paid their taxes. He doesnt know a lobbyist when he sees one and certainly doesnt know what the vast majority of Americans are needing.

sure, just keep telling yourself that, jeannette - after all, mastering economic policy can’t be that much harder than fixing a clogged pipe.
speaking of taxes: didn’t sam “the joe” wurzelbacher have tax-issues, too?

This reminds me of when Kermit the Frog (or some other muppet) testified to Congress about public television or something. I thought that was weird then and I think this is weird now.
