Via the Politico: Hillary Clinton could be Sec. of State - Mike Allen

Several Obama transition advisers are strongly advocating Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) for secretary of state, a move that would create the ultimate “Team of Rivals” Cabinet, according to officials involved in the discussions.

President-elect Obama has narrowed the possibilities for secretary of state, and Clinton is among those being strongly considered, the officials said. Some even call her the favorite.

I, for one, am not buying it. All of the reason that existed not to name her as Veep, accrue to this office as well. Indeed, at least with naming her as veep there was a potential political (i.e., electoral) upside to taking on the risk of having a direct rival within the White House, not to mention Bill (and advantage that Obama ended up clearly not needing). I am not sure what the advantage would be now, especially since it isn’t like Senator Clinton is some sort of foreign policy savant.

According to MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Clinton is “under consideration” and notes the following additional possible candidates:

Other Democrats known to want the State Department post are Sen. John Kerry and Gov. Bill Richardson. A possible compromise choice would be former Sen. Tom Daschle.

Jr. Senator of NY has plenty of work, will remain a political leader until proven otherwise, and does not need a new job anyway. She will wait and see 2012 for president. But not now unless she feels her country first above her political ambition.

OMG! No way P.E. OBAMA should select Hillary Clinton to head the Department of State. That is not a change I voted for. She is a bonafide AIPAC/NEOCON choice and they will be all over the department to drag Arab/Israeli peace process into another Oslo type disaster.

When it comes to Arab/Israeli conflict Clinton/Lieberman is the neocons and deep inside she hate the Palestinians. I don’t like this nomination at all.
