She doesn’t appear to be Dan Quayle.

No, but the country isn’t back in 1988 either.

One would hope not. Especially since Quayle was a man.

Condiering the facts:
According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani’s speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.
Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.
Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.

The Republican #2 has what it takes to blow the Dems #1 & 2 combined out of the water. She should be the top of the ticket.

She should be the top of the ticket.
She has been on the national stage less than a week–dontcha think maybe you are jumping the gun a bit?

Not at all, some people are just born to it, “a natural” and Sarah Palin fits into that category. Fly over America loves her; the “elites” are afraid of her, with good reason.
There is no doubt the base is now solidified as much or more than it has ever been. This was an overall positive pick. I believe I’ve got gloating rights.

I believe I’ve got gloating rights.
I think that it is bit early for anyone to claim gloating rights–those are, I think, to be claimed sometime in November.
She did better in the speech than I expected, and I readily admit that (but I never made a direct claim about how she would perform). To declare her the second coming of Reagan, or somehow ready to be on the top of the ticket after one speech is reckless and ignores the fact that this is just the start of the general election campaign.

Dr. Steven Taylor:
I imagine for the erudite among you tied up in the minutia of obscure political arguments this would be a reckless choice, but this woman does have a track record in life, a very solid foundation and values that this country was built on. And yes, there really is a book all about Sarah. Buy it at Amazon: Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska’s Political Establishment on Its Ear
The gloating rights argument has to do with your blogger vote help or hurt the ticket, not win the election. There was no way John McCain was going to solidify the base with anyone else on his ticket; he would have lost by a landslide. This gives him a fighting chance. There is no way that the net effect of Sarah Palin hurts the ticket.

As you wish. However, you are basing that on one performance. In terms of helping or hurting, surely that can only be judged over the long haul of the general election campaign? Certainly that was view when I made the statement, and I stand by it for all the reasons I have articulated to this point. Further, we haven’t even finished the media scrutiny of her record nor have we seen her on the campaign trail nor in the debate. It is far, far too early to declare the evaluation over.

It seems we have a possible new political star here. However, I’m thinking she needs to be on the national stage longer before we’re talking about the second coming of Reagan.
