Blogging at Polysigh, Stephen Medvic seeks a workable definition of “swift boating.” I concur with his basic definition:

the term “swift boat” should be reserved for instances when a candidate is attacked on grounds that threaten the primary justification of his or her candidacy. “Swift boating” is going for the jugular. It will be harsh, of course, and it may be untrue; but if it doesn’t attack the very foundation of the campaign, it isn’t a “swift boat” attack.

The whole post is worth a read.

    1. The problem is that Democrats have spent 4 years now defining the term as any untruthful, outrageous, and completely fabricated attack on an opponent. And since Dems tend to use the term way more than anybody else, I’m not sure a term shoule be defined to suit the minority.

    2. Out of curiosity, how would you define the term?
