Via the BBC: Peres starts historic Turkey trip

Israel’s president has met his Turkish counterpart for talks about a coming Middle East peace conference, with the Palestinian leader also due in Ankara.

Shimon Peres will address parliament on Tuesday, the first time an Israeli president will have been welcomed by a Muslim country’s legislature.

Mahmoud Abbas will address MPs separately later on Monday.

While Israel’s President has no significant formal powers, this is a symbolically significant act–it is made moreso given all the concern that the angst over the ascension of the Islamic AK party to power in Turkey.

    1. Thank you for bringing useful content to the blogging industry. It shows that Turkey is making some very real changes to their diplomacy efforts in reaction to the fighters that are harming their citizens. Yet, I must commend Turkey for looking outside the normal box, breaking away from the traditional to search for allies in on-conventional arenas. I am looking forward to seeing what else Turkey comes up with to prevent going to war without exhausting all other initiatives. Too bad our country hasn’t taken a page out of the Turkey playbook.
