Andrew Sullivan further explains his position (that I discussed yesterday).
And thanks to Sullivan for the link.

Obama Option - The Center is Broad
As a supporter of Obama and one-time Republican (when the party still had a progressive wing, so a longer time past than most of you will remember), I think it is simplistic to categorize the man as left or right, liberal or conservative. His positions are based on fundamental principles that escape ready classification. He opposed the war in Iraq as the wrong war, but is for going after al-Qaida on the Afghan-Pakistan border. On the broader issue, Obama knows as a constitutional expert that defense is the first responsibility of the federal government, and has warned that our forces need to be strengthened to meet the real threats we face. His healthcare approach builds on what works in the existing private insurance system, proposes that the government negotiate for its shareholders the same benefits enjoyed by its workers; and rather than being mandatory (except for children), it is the market mechanism of affordable pricing that will enable and encourage everyone to participate. These are just some examples of how he approaches problems: not with a dogmatic ideology, but rather with practical, common sense solutions. That is why he brings together a broad range of poltiical thinking and why he can talk honestly about what unites us rather than what divides us.
