Via the Telegraph:Gore campaign team assembles in secret

Friends of Al Gore have secretly started assembling a campaign team in preparation for the former American vice-president to make a fresh bid for the White House.

Two members of Mr Gore’s staff from his unsuccessful attempt in 2000 say they have been approached to see if they would be available to work with him again.

Well, more accurately it was a secret. This looks like a trial balloon, although I must confess that the foreign press is an odd place to float one.

I would not be surprised if Gore got into the race, and I think he would leap into the top tier. He obviously has name recognition and fund-raising capabilities. Further, he would create such a buzz that the media exposure would be immense. However, none of that guarantees an ability to win the nomination.

It will be interesting to see how this develops (assuming that it does).

Let’s hope that this does not develop. He had his chance, Kerry had his chance, let’s have new dance partners.

My personal feeling is that he would be the strongest Democrat in the field. However, the recent LA Times poll does not bear that hunch out. It is the only recent poll I know of to have asked about Gore and the major announced candidates. He was on 13%.

I suppose a poll asking about a non-candidate in a field of those who have already raised money and begun campaigning is not necessarily a fair indicator. Still, I was surprised he was that low.

I’ve done my part. I signed the Draft Gore petition.

    A secret assembling campaign team?

The only important question here is this:

    Do they have a Batcave?

    Dr. Taylor,

You state: “…although I must confess that the foreign press is an odd place to float one.”

And, we at 2008 Central would certainly agree with you. We’ve done some analysis of this article and we are not convinced that it’s really about Gore and a shadow organization. Rather, we believe, that it’s more about taking a shot at Hillary Clinton and cleverly presenting the ’she is not electable’ argument.
