If you have surfed by Fox News Channel or CNN in the last hour or so, you will have seen that Alabama is getting whacked by storms today. I can confirm that it is pretty nasty out there, although at my house specifically it hasn’t been too bad–just intermittent heavy rain. However, there have been a number of tornado-producing storms cells that have streamed to our northwest and southeast.

Indeed, as I write, the local television station is reporting three areas of rotation in the area in and around Montgomery County.

This is one of those weather situations where you end up having to watch a lot of weather coverage on TV.

As many many have heard, the High School in Enterprise (not that far from Troy, where I teach) was hit by a tornado. The Dothan Eagle reports: Tornado strikes Enterprise High School

A tornado stuck downtown Enteprise this afternoon, damaging buildings and the high school.

A teacher at the high school reported the school was heavily damaged and the roof collapsed. A number of students were injured.

According to Dothan Eagle photographer Danny Tindell who is there on the scene, the Enterprise High School area “looks like a bomb hit it. This is the worst damage I’ve ever seen. Even worse than hurricane damage.”

Update: Video on local TV shows some very serious damage to the school and surrounding area in Enterprise.
