In presiding over the passage of the anti-surge resolution today (see story at WaPo: House Rebukes Bush on Iraq) Speaker Pelosi stated that:

the resolution’s passage “will signal a change in direction in Iraq that will end the fighting and bring our troops home safely and soon.”

Well, it is questionable as to whether the resolution will, in any substantial way, contribute to a change in direction in Iraq, it certainly will not end the fighting.  If we could beam out our troops tonight, the sad fact of the matter is, there would still be fighting in Iraq.

    1. Really, it’s just a beefed up hot-air way of saying, “We strongly disagree.” Why it’s gotten the neocon panties in a twist is beyond me.
