There’s a new Congress in town (Jubilant Democrats Assume Control on Capitol Hill), and as I have noted before, regardless of one’s partisan predictions, it is an event from which all Americans should take pride. The swearing in of a new Congress means that democracy continues in the United States and a partisan transition in particular reminds us that voters do matter in our government.

An unbroken chain of Congresses being sworn in from 1789 to the present is a remarkable feat in the history of democratic government.
