By Dr. Steven Taylor

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again: Pat Robertson is an embarrassment . Whether it is in his stating that Ariel Sharon’s stroke was God’s punishment for dividing the lands of Israel, or calling for the assassination of Hugo Chavez or promising God’s wrath on a town because of their views on evolution or any number of other things, I don’t understand how any Christian (let alone anyone else) can take the man seriously.

And now he is at it again (via CNN): Pat Robertson: God told me of ‘mass killing’ in 2024

Evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday that God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would cause a “mass killing” late in 2024.

“I’m not necessarily saying it’s going to be nuclear,” he said during his news-and-talk television show “The 700 Club” on the Christian Broadcasting Network.

“The Lord didn’t say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that.”

Robertson said God told him about the impending tragedy during a recent prayer retreat.

God also said, he claims, that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September.

The idea that Robertson thinks that God speaks to him audibly is disturbing. I must confess to never having been a fan of Robertson, but this kind of thing makes me question his sanity. And I love “The Lord didn’t say nuclear.” What did He say, Pat? And is there anything useful in the statement?

Further, what would be the point of such an announcement, aside from the obvious fact that Pat wants the attention? Ultimately what this kind of thing does is make Pat look odd (to be kind) and besmirches serious Christians.

Will there be a massive apology when he is wrong?

Utterly bizarre.

    1. […] We Already Did A Post On Him But We Can’t Help Ourselves. We’re drawn to watch Pat Robertson, like we can’t keep our eyes off the guy on the street corner talking to the fire hydrant. 2. The article indicates that he does these yearly. Is there a list of previous predictions anywhere. I’d like to see his track record, as well as the level of “generality” he has. I have this strange feeling that his predictions are becoming more specific.

    3. You hit the nail on the head, he wants attention to get those donations rolling in. He’s a kook who should be ignored.

    4. Dan, there is a list of predictions somewhere, but I can’t find them at the moment. Sounds like he’s been watching Jericho to me.
