That’s the newest low price that I have seen around Montgomery as of this evening.

It may not be $1.15, but it is still pretty dang good compared to what it has been.  Indeed, given the distances I drive to work, it is like getting a mini-raise.

    1. Here in the Mobile area, we have the highest prices in the state. I was going to Pensacola today on I-10 and I passed a station in Baldwin County that was selling for $2.39. {Love’s in Loxley, for anyone who’s interested.} I haven’t seen that since before Katrina.

    3. I know you believe in the free market, but I am on record a few weeks ago suggesting that the gas prices are directly related to the upcoming midterm elections. Gas prices will rise come Thanksgiving. I too believe in a free market when there are more than three companies or when all three companies don’t secretly meet with the VP to determine our energy polices. Thanksgiving we will be back up to and over $3. Of course, they will find some natural disaster to blame.

    4. But that’s not how gas prices are set. The price of oil is determined by the commodities market, and that isn’t just driven by the oil companies–it is driven by traders.

Explain to me how the administration or the oil companies are able to manipulate the price of barrel of oil on the commodities market.

And, if they can, what would be their motivation for doing anything except keeping prices high?

You might argue that the GOP is good for business, but if they can manipulate the oil prices at will, why would they care about which party is in charge.

Further, the argument is predicated on the notion than an administration that is supposedly inept is somehow simultaneously hyper-powerful. That doesn’t tack.

And you know that I am not an auto-booster for Bush.

    5. […] Because of some comments on one of my posts from a few days ago (as well as a post at OTB), a discussion has arisen as to the relationship between crude oil per barrel prices and the per gallon price of gasoline. The reason this has emerged is because some find it suspicious that gas prices have started to go down just as we are hitting election season. […]

    6. I paid $1.99 here in St. Louis at Sam’s today.

Not that that made me any more willing to vote for Jim Talent…

    8. It sure seems like Bushs friends were and are trying to get Republicans elected by manipulating gas and oil prices. I saw this interview the day it aired.(4-25-04) I am astonished that more people were not outraged by the following quotes. Prince Bandar denies oil price fixing in one breath, then admonishes Tim Russert in the next with a boisterous “What, don’t you guys WANT cheap oil?” October 2024 was an important election cycle and we saw low gas prices. October 2024 is an important election cycle, and surprise surprise, oil is dropping like a stone. Wall Street knows it’s coming, the Republicans and the Democrats know it’s coming, and yet somehow the American people remain in the dark. This is the same interview where Prince Bandar admits asking the FBI for permission for direct members of Osamas family to be allowed to fly out of the US just days after 9/11. He also admits that his country held terrorist fund raising telethons AFTER 9/11. Everyone should see this video, yet strangely it is very difficult to find on the internet. (after alot of searching) Here’s a link to the transcript.

Tim Russert: What do you think the price of Saudi oil will be in October 2024?

Prince Bandar: I wish I knew, but I can assure you now we’ve been working very diligently to make sure that the prices go down below $28. This is a public position we have taken, and we’ve convinced OPEC to agree with us on that. And, I don’t understand what is so wrong with oil prices going lower. I thought that is good for America, the American economy, the American people. And, it is definitely good for us in my country.

Tim Russert: And may be good for George Bush’s reelection?

Prince Bandar: It may be good for anybody in the Whitehouse and the American people. And, we don’t see the difference.

Hmmmmm, he doesn’t see the difference between cheap oil all the time, and cheap oil when Bush and the Republicans need an election year campaign boost. I will explain. One is a normal economic state, where as the other is election tampering.

Still, I only delete spam. I leave the rest up.
