Via CNN: Israeli troops expanding thrust into Lebanon

Israel began an expanded offensive into Lebanon Friday night, but authorities said it could be stopped if negotiations at the United Nations produce an acceptable cease-fire plan.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert ordered the offensive in the belief that a resolution under discussion at the U.N. did not satisfy Israeli security concerns, Olmert’s spokesman, Asaf Shariv, told The Associated Press.

And meanwhile, the talks at the UN continue, including:

Political sources close to the discussions said some countries, including France and likely Turkey, have agreed in principle to send 14,000 troops to south Lebanon once the Security Council moves. About 2,000 UNIFIL troops could be deployed even faster, perhaps from the port city of Tyre, the sources said.

And the story continues to develop…

    1. I want values man! I want to be safe from what really matters: gay marriage…we don’t need no stinkin’ stem celled gay married men, just cheap Middle Eastern gays..gas..for our big SUVs.

Forgetting about the deceit behind Bush’s war of choice, what grade
should his prosecution of this war be given? An A or a B, or perhaps a
D or an F? Before you answer, recall Bush’s many illustrious victories:
We killed Saddam’s boys and things got better…err…we captured
Saddam and things got better…err…we got the Iraqis to make an
interim government and things got better…err we had the Iraqis hold a
free election and things got better…err…we have an Iraqi “unity”
government taking over Iraq and things are getting
better…really…every day in every way things are getting better
(Hannity), and this is why soon this year 20,000 Iraqis will be dead
and we’re moving more troops into Baghdad, where the people are
practicing their democratic right of public demonstrations against the
      Great Satan, the USA.

On domestice policy, for a bit of juxtaposition, what grade would you
give Bush for Katrina? If all roads were flooded, where were the
massive air drops of relief supplies by the US Air Force? The Mexican
Army, driving through Texas, got through with relief supplies. And
where was Bush for those first few days after Katrina? On vacation,
      attending political events?

Now, nearly five years after 9/11, what grade would you give Bush for
making our ports safer? Our borders tighter? Wow dude…liquid
boom-booms, who’d thought? Chertov of Homeland Security perhaps? Give him an A!

Back to Iraq: Is the blood and treasure being spent in Iraq helping or
hindering the war on terror? Suppose we pull out now, what then will
happen to our interests in the Middle East? There’s a good chance Iran
will become the big, bad player, and I don’t believe this is good for
us. Okay then, let’s “stay the course” for the next 10 - 12 years as
Sec. Rumsfeld has stated is the lifetime of an insurgency. We’ll raise
a new generation of American hating Muslims, continue to get tens of
thousands of Iraqi civilians killed, continue to tax our troops tour
after tour until we have ourselves a new generation of maimed and
burned-out ‘Vietnam’ veterans. Given the long history of the Middle East,
or even only the relatively recent failure of the British to control
the region not too many decades ago, the current situation should have
been forseen by any non-homophobic, non-creationist, non-anti-stem cell
retard with a billionth of a brain. (What is this saying about, about
      50% of Americans?)

Oh, by the way, about Bush’s fortitude as some Republicants are touting, as of 17:00 hours east coast time, the US is now signing aboard a resolution that the French, not
the Israelis, support. Vive le Fortitude…err vive la France!
