Via CNN: Poll: Clinton gets high ‘no’ vote for 2008

Regarding potential Democratic candidates, 47 percent of respondents said they would “definitely vote against” both Clinton, the junior senator from New York who is running for re-election this year, and Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the party’s candidate in 2004.

Forty-eight percent said the same of former Vice President Al Gore, who has repeatedly denied he intends to run again for president.

However, standard caveats apply: we are a year and a half away from nominating season (although really closing in on a year before we start to get a firm idea who is officially running), and the poll was taken of adults, not of likely voters.

Still, this isn’t the thing that a candidate wants to hear, nor what a party wants to hear about its potential front-runners–especially given the Democrat’s ongoing mania concerning “electability.”

Of course, on the flip side, Hillary had the best positive numbers:

Among all choices, Clinton had the highest positive number; of those polled, 22 percent said they would “definitely vote for” her.

On the GOP side, Jeb Bush didn’t fare too well:

As for Bush, brother of the current president, 63 percent said there was no way he would get their vote.

Given his brother’s numbers, this is hardly surprising (not to mention the dynastic implications of such a run).

McCain and Rudy fared much better:

Among the Republicans, Sen. John McCain of Arizona and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani fared better than the Democrats, and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush fared worse.

Only 30 percent said they would “definitely vote against” Giuliani; 34 percent said that of McCain.

Of course, most of this means nothing, and is rather something to keep pollsters and political junkies busy and to give political consultants ulcers or false hope.
