For some reason it seems like every time there is a special election, the press (and many politicos) want to treat the things as some sort of indicator of things to come.

The Busby-Bilbrey race in CA-50 certainly is not exception. Via the AP we have:Republican wins bellwether House race. As of the latest count in the story, Bilbray had 50% of the vote.

Now, I will concur that there were some interesting issues in this race that have clear salience for the November mid-terms. However, to try and draw conclusions about the outcome of those races because of this event is sheer silliness.

Heck, it is a Republican district, surely this is the expected result.

Everyone in the press, repeat after me: one event does not a trend make.

If anything, can we stop calling these things “bellwethers”? Please?
